Dr. A. Einstein, Chairman Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists 118 Nassau Street Princeton, New Jersey

Dear Doctor Einstein:

I have your letter of April 29th, and I approve of the Statement by the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists.
It seems strange that our politicians are so convinced of the fact that our ideology is the only one that has a right to exist. I see no reason at all why Russia and the United States should not still live in the same world, be neighbors, and be friendly.
I think those who devise the policy for America are too much of the opinion that force alone is the dominating principle on which peace can exist. If the world is to be peaceful, it must be dominated by humanism - not by force. If nobody wants war, why do we keep talking about it all the time. Very little is said about peace in our daily papers or over the radio. All is about preparation for war - a war that will de-stroy the victor as well as the vanquished.
I appreciate the great work that you and your as-sociates are doing, and enclose $25 as my contribution.

Sincerely yours, F.M. Pottenger, M.D. FMP:1h
