The Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists 90 Nassau Street Princeton, New Jersey
Dear Sirs:
There are of course many organizations today striving in one way or another to promote peace. There is one, however, which I am particularly familiar with and in which I believe you would be very interested. It is The World Youth Foundation, Inc. This Foundation was incorporate approximately 3 weeks ago. Its president is Mr. Veazey Rainwater, vice-president of the Coca Cola Bottling Co. The purpose of the organization is to promote peace in the minds of the youth of the world. To do this several means are being advanced simultaneously: a magazine devoted to the activities of youth throughout the world, world sport tournaments, science conventions, world wide radio broadcasts. Leading advertizers are to be contracted to sponsor these program- "through the courtesy of the ABC Co.". Each of these activities covers 26 categories ranging from home economics and sports to science, technology and world affairs. The organization is non-sectarian and non-political. This is a cornerstone to its conception. However the two categories of science and world affairs may be of particular interest to the Committee. your work of education could easily be done in conjunction (in part) with the World Youth Foundation. I have informed Mr. Rainwater of your program, and it is possible that the Committee may hear from him shortly.
Another matter which the Committe may wish to act on is the soliciting of contributions from Harvardevens Village at Fort Devens, Mass. This is a village of 250 families of Harvard students. Mr. Fletcher W. Taft, Resident Manager, stated he would be very happy to have his office distribute the literature and contribution forms to all the families if your office will send them in bulk to him. Direct arrangements should be made with Mr. Taft.
I sincerely hope these matters will provide to be of material aid to the world of the Emergency Committee.
