Dear Dr. Urey, 

  Yesterday I received the announcement of the dinner given in honor of Dr. Condon.  
  Like many others, I feel heartily ashamed of our House Committee on Un-American activities.  
  People like Dr. Condon & David  Lilienthal came out of the persecutions to which some of our legislators subject them with great statue than before, but I am acutely conscious of the dangers to civil liberties, to science and to the dignity of our government that irresponsible congressmen and senators create by such actions as the Lilienthal investigation, & the attack on Dr. Condon.
