(Mrs. Harold Jones.) Trade Winds, Towers Rd., Muizenberg, Cape Town. South Africa. 15th April 1947
Addressed to Dr Einstein.
Dear Friend,
I received your letter of January 20th with regard to the urgency of educating everyone to the realities of the Atomic Bomb, and I am glad indeed to send a contribution of £3.3.0 through my Bank, The Standard Bank of South Africa Ltd., Cape Town. I trust that it will arrive at the same time as this letter.
So that your letter and booklet might be put to immediate use I have circulated it amongst some of the Branch Councils of the National Council of Women of S. Africa, and here in Cape Town last week we asked Professor James, of the Cape Town University to address our Council. Members were much impressed and I am sure will pass this information on to many others. Every word of what you say was fully confirmed by this Speaker.
The Headquarters of the N.C.W.S.A. is situated at Fletchers Chambers, Adderley St., Cape Town, and they are in correspondence with many Branch Councils throughout this country. I feel quite sure that you would find they will make use of any further circular letters of booklets which you may be sending out.
The Chamber of Mines, in Johannesburg, is one of the most powerful, and wealthy, bodies in S. Africa - perhaps you would like to write to the Manager, Chamber of Mines, Johannesburg direct - they should be ready and willing to make a contribution to your Committee, for they have much at stake!
The Universities of Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and Stellenbosch, as well as Potchefstroom,
would be good centres for spreading this knowledge, and all have highly qualified staffs.
I should be grateful to receive copies of any further literature you publish, as well as a few more copies of the booklet which you attached to your letter.
May your efforts meet with great success and save this World from further horrors.
Faithfully yours, Muriel A Jones (Mrs)
