Professor Albert Einstein Princeton, New Jersey.
Dear Albert Einstein: -
Enclosed please find my check for $100.00 payable to The Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists Incorporated to help you in the campaign you are launching to educate our people in the necessity of "international control of atomic energy and ultimately the elimination of war".
The great respect I have for you and your work is indicated in the "Letter Which Took 50 Years to Write", a copy of which is enclosed herewith.
From the standpoint of the local community we realize how important it is for us to build bridges of understanding between the several groups in our society, and we are seeking to unite ourselves in Rochester on the basis of a common interest in "creative" works. If we can do this locally we will give our citizens a feeling of "belonging" to the community, and hence, a greater respect for the community of which one is a member.
If you people can give man a chance to live, by controlling the means of his extinction i.e. the atomic bomb, there may be yet time for us to get people together in the communities in which they live on the basis of common interests and thus build a solid basis for peace in the hearts of men.
Sincerely yours,
NEWTON HOLLAND. Newton Holland (signature)
