Dr. Albert Einstein, Chairman, Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists, Princeton, N.J.

Dear Dr. Einstein:

I have just sent you the following wire, because I have heard from others, who are also deeply concerned about the atomic energy matter, that they were concerned over the apathy and indifference of the American people regarding the menace inherent in the uncontrolled atomic energy.

On receipt of your telegram, I rose to the importance of its contents and wire you -

"Iam concerned and will make initial contribution of $250., but would like to have more information as to the competence of personnel of organization by which funds will be spent."

From this you see I am inclined to do more than the $250. if and when I understand more fully just who beside yourselves are furthering your proposal as set forth in your telegram. It would make a vast amount of difference as to how wisely the proposed $200,000. is to be spent. I can think of many different leads and avenues through which a program of this kind might be channelled and interest multiplied.

I will be glad if you will have someone write me more at length as to just how your committee proposes to go about this task.
