'48 the Magazine of the Year 68 West 45th St. New York 19, N.Y.

April 1, 1948

Dear Professor Einstein:

Nobody in his right mind wants another war. According to the opinion polls, most Americans believe that the Soviet Union is the main Ambling block to peace. People are saying, "If I only had a cou-le of minutes alone with Stalin, I'd tell him plenty!"
The editors of '48 are asking a group of respected Ameri-cans, representing various political beliefs, (including Herbert Hoover, Bernard Baruch, Bill Mauldin, Robert R. Young, Robert M. Hutchins, Walter Reuther, Henry L. Stimson) to write down on one gage what they would say to Stalin if they had the opportunity.
If you would do likewise, we believe you could make a real contribution to the number one worry of our time.
Could we have your page by April 15? We will pay our standard rate of ten cents a word for the material.
The issue of '48 containing this feature -- "Two Minutes with Stalin" -- will be delivered by hand to the Kremlin, marked for the ileneralissimols attention.
                      Sincerely,
                  S/ Richard E. Lauterbach
                      Editor
