Leo Mayer, MD 1150 Fifth Ave NY 28 Atwater 9-1216 July 19, 1946 Mr. Harold L. Oram Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientiest 90 Nassua Street Princeton, New Jersey

Dear Mr. Oram,

Thanks for your note of July 16th. While I was at a recent conference of the American Orthopedic Association I spoke about your organization to Dr. Dallas B. Phenister, Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Chicago. He expressed great interest and would, I think, make a generous contribution if Dr. Einstein were to write him a personal letter. His address is 950 East 59th Street, Chicago, Illinois.

I still think that despite the difficulties in the way it would be worth while trying to arrange a personal conference with Dr. Einstein and one of the important Soviet leaders. The crisis is so urgent that some daring step of this kind ought to be carried out and Dr. Einstein's reputation is such that he is the logical man to undertake it. May I urge that you ask him to reconider the suggestion?

Sincerely yours, Leo Mayer, M.D.
