I received your letter dated June 15th shortly before leaving for our summer home in Canada.  When the appeal from the Com. of Atomic Scientists came to my mother, Mrs. Mortimer Matthews (Marianna Matthews) some weeks ago, she was short of funds & I gave $500. [$5.00?] of the $1000. [$10.00?] sent in her name.  We are both deeply    interested and anxious to do our share.  If you do not succeed in earning the $200.000 needed for your Programme of [Public?]
