Title
Jason Hanauska Oral History Interview
Description
An environmental science course at community college inspired Jason Hanauska to pursue environmental engineering as a means of improving natural systems. While balancing his roles as a father and full-time student at Oregon State University, he has also been an active member of the Engineers Without Borders student chapter. Hanauska will graduate in June 2018 and looks forward to applying his knowledge of water treatment and modeling to restoring natural waterways.
Hanauska describes his path from growing up in Salem, Oregon to studying environmental engineering at Oregon State University. He recounts how his interest in playing music changed with his commitment to a drum corps group in high school. He reflects on how his community college experience inspired his academic interests, and how becoming a father as a student shifted his priorities and outlook. Other highlights include traveling to Cambodia on an Engineers Without Borders trip, the environmental engineering program at OSU, and a broader discussion on climate change.
