Title
Delmer Goode Oral History Interview (1 of 7)
Description
Delmer Morrison Goode first joined the Oregon Agricultural College faculty in 1919 as an assistant editor in the Publications department, where he would eventually become director. Some of his greatest contributions to Oregon State included his work with graduate students in the area of college and university teaching. Goode remained a part of OSU until he formally retired in 1978. In his first interview, Goode begins with how his parents met and parts of their courtship. Later, anecdotes from his childhood, such as learning to farm, are featured in the interview.
Other topics of interest include his family moving to western Minnesota, his view on the importance of education, and his commitment to his own education. He realized that he would not become a farmer like his father had hoped. Instead, he decided he wanted to pursue a college education and attended Moorhead Normal School. Eventually, Goode became a teacher and had his first assignment in North Dakota. According to him, young men did not often go into this profession but he enjoyed the work.
