Description
John Garman first started at Oregon Agricultural College as a student. He left his educational path briefly as he joined the Army during World War I. Once he returned he finished his degree and became an associate professor and would remain at OSU until his retirement in 1966. One of his greatest contributions to Oregon State is his photographic collection, which was developed during his time as a faculty member. In his first oral history interview, Garman begins with background on himself and how his family came to Oregon. He gives a detailed account of what his childhood was like in Portland.
Once he was of age, Garman enrolled into OAC majoring in engineering. When prompted he talked about his experiences as a student. Later after taking some photography courses, Garman developed his passion. When he became a faculty member, he helped establish the Photographic Service Department for the college.
