Introduction

The Extension Division of the Oregon Agricultural College has been organized for the purpose of aiding in extending the advantages of the college to the people of the State. It is known that much of the information in the possession of the experts of the college and the experiment station would be of value to the people of the State who cannot come to the college for it if it could be carried to them…This bulletin is the first of a series to be published by the Extension Division for the purpose of disseminating practicable and valuable information. These publications will be simple, lucid explanations of scientific truths which may be used in making the farms and shops more productive and the homes and civic communities more attractive. They will be sent free to the people of the State.
