Field Trip to Coos Bay Oyster Farm, 1973. OSU Extension Marine
Advisory Agent Paul Heikkila, center left, demonstrates to a group of 4-H members how a Coos Bay
oyster grower stimulates the growth of oyster larvae through the immersion of strings of empty
oyster shells. Heikkila is one of a number of Extension agents and specialists working with the
Sea Grant program to inform and educate various communities in Oregon of the ocean's potential
