2 cubic feet

Scope and Content Note

The Oregon State College Clippings Scrapbooks consist of clippings from Oregon newspapers, primarily the Oregonian, Oregon Journal, Eugene Register-Guard, and Corvallis Gazette-Times. Many of the clippings pertain to the early years of the Oregon State System of Higher Education, the appointment of William Jasper Kerr as Chancellor, and the controversy between Oregon State College and the University of Oregon regarding the consolidation of academic programs and curriculum revisions. Seven scrapbooks for the period 1935-1944 include clippings on a variety of subjects. The 1952-1957 clippings are not affixed to scrapbook pages and also pertain to various topics including OSC faculty and administrators, academic and research programs, student activities, and athletics.

Form of Materials

Most of the clippings are affixed to pages, except for those from 1952-1957.

Provenance

The provenance of these clippings and scrapbooks is unclear. They were transferred from the Library to the Archives in 1979. The 1935-1944 scrapbooks and some of the other clippings may have been assembled by Adolph Ziefle, Dean of Pharmacy. Some of the early 1930s clippings may have been assembled by W.A. Jensen, Executive Secretary to the OSC President. The 1952-1957 clippings may have assembled by the OSC News Bureau.
