Dr. Jane Lubchenco is a marine ecologist and environmental scientist with expertise in oceans, biodiversity, climate change, and the interactions between the environment and human well-being.

A faculty member at Oregon State University since 1977, Lubchenco was Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration from 2009-2013. She has since returned to OSU and also serves as the first U.S. Science Envoy for the Ocean. The recipient of a Ph.D. in ecology from Harvard University, she is one of the most highly cited ecologists in the world; eight of her publications are classified as "Science Citation Classics."

Lubchenco is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society of London, among many other science honoraries and professional organizations. She is a past president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and has served on the Pew Oceans Commission, the Joint Oceans Commission Initiative, the Council of Advisors for Google Ocean, and the Blue Ribbon Panel for the World Bank's Global Partnership for the Ocean. She has likewise received numerous awards including a MacArthur "genius" award and twenty honorary doctorates.
