The panel convened to discuss the history, culture and future of hops production and brewing in Oregon. Kopp's focus was on his use of historical materials in support of his research and the crucial need to preserve these records for future scholarly use. Foyston discussed his long career as a beer writer, noting the personalities and trends that he has chronicled along the way. Firmat reflected on her work as a brewer in the early days of Oregon microbrewing, and provided perspective on craft brewing history. Sharp presented an overview of the OSU Fermentation Science program and his own research, which is focused on developing a predictive model for hop aroma in finished beer.
