Entire Container List

1. Publications. 1929-1991, undated.

Over the course of his life, Milton Harris authored more than two-hundred scientific publications. Harris saved reprints of many of these publications, which are now organized into the first series of the Harris collection. Of particular interest are the copy of Harris's 1929 doctoral dissertation in box 1.001 and the large volume of work conducted on the structure and properties of wool dating to the mid- and late-1930s.

2. Speeches. 1942-1987, undated.

The active role that Harris assumed in many professional organizations - especially the American Chemical Society, which he led for five years as Chairman of the Board of Directors - presented numerous occasions for Harris to utilize his excellent public speaking skills. The many speech manuscripts, typescripts and notes contained in this series, as well as the large collection of jokes, anecdotes and ephemera that he used in preparing his talks, are a testament to breadth of Harris's career as a public figure.

9. Research Notebooks. 1928-1978.

The five research notebooks that comprise Series 9 detail Harris's laboratory work on a number of scientific topics, including the properties of silk and paraffins, and the nature of chemical equilibrium in various systems. One notebook is likewise devoted entirely to recording Harris's impressions of a March 1978 trip to China.
