Series 5 consists of research notes, arranged alphabetically by subject, and research notebooks, arranged chronologically. The diversity of topics represented in this series are indicative of the many scientific interests maintained by Dunitz over the course of his career.

First interior page is titled "Experiments in Molecular Complex Formation Among Purines, Pyrimidines, etc." Also includes notes on nucleic acids and experiments on Na2S2O4.
