In addition to documenting the publication of the annual "Guide to Student Life" and the organization of campus events, these materials also relate to the administration and funding of student organizations and cultural centers, Snell Hall renovations/remodels, department long range planning, policy and procedure development, various student retention and orientation programs, the Broadcast Media Committee, and space allocation in Snell Hall and the Memorial Union. Also included in this accession are records from the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission.

John D. Lattin Papers (MSS)

This addition to the John D. Lattin Papers consists of articles, certificates, correspondence, grant proposals, maps, newspaper clippings, photographs, reports, publications, and other materials generated and collected by Entomology Professor John Lattin. Primarily reflecting Lattin's research into the risks posed by non-native pests introduced through the importation of logs and ecological studies of the H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest, these records also document Lattin's curatorship of the Entomology Museum and interaction with colleagues in the U.S. and abroad. Environmental impact studies of the management of old growth forests in the range of Spotted Owl are also included among these materials. Depicting Lattin with fellow Entomology faculty and students, the photographs also include two images of Entomology Professor Herman Scullen, one of him in the classroom teaching and the other a portrait.

This accession consists of materials generated by the University Archives in the planning, organization, and implementation of records management workshops. Included among the materials found in these records are: agendas, completed survey/evaluation forms, correspondence, handouts, meeting minutes, notes, participant lists, photographs, and a script written for a video production on the transfer of records to the Archives. The photographic images are slides showing records housed in the Archives and the preparation of boxes to be transferred to the Archives. There are also records pertaining to the organization of a disaster preparedness and recovery workshop that the Archives presented as an all-day workshop at the 1991 annual Northwest Archivists meeting.

This accession consists of a photograph album of images taken and collected by alumnus James Kenneth Fleshman. Containing 49 prints in all, the photographs in this album depict exterior and interior views of several campus buildings (Benton Hall, Education Hall, Kidder Hall, and Graf Hall), the gazebo once located across the quad from Kidder Hall, students in military formation on the lower campus, the homecoming bonfire, an unidentified student in front of a house (Fleshman?), and the beaver mascot being rolled out for a football game on a wagon. Born in La Grande, Oregon, Fleshman graduated from Oregon State in 1928 with a degree in chemical engineering. His wife, Francis H. Day, also graduated from Oregon State with a degree in Home Economics. This scrapbook was donated by Fleshman's son, Ken Fleshman.

This accession consists of 707 slides generated by the Office of Extension and Experiment Station Communications depicting research projects and various staff members at five Extension and Experiment Station branches (Central Oregon Agricultural Reseach Center, Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center, Klamath Experiment Station, Mid-Columbia Agriculture and Research and Extension Center, and the Central Oregon ARC Branch Station). Organized in five groups corresponding to the five stations, these images include views of indoor laboratory research, irrigation, harvesting equipment, research on agricultural plots, insects, and livestock. There are also images of various field day events and participants. Staff members are identified.

This accession consists of a slide presentation (70 images in all) and script developed by Extension Forestry Specialist Charles Ross on the usefulness of windbreaks in agriculture entitled "A 20-Year Pictorial Review of Windbreak Plantings." Many of the images in this presentation were taken in the vicinity of the Sherman Branch Experiment Station in Moro and include shots of local Extension employees and various trees and foliage in the region. Charles Ross served as Extension Forester from 1946 to 1970.

This accession is an addition to the Bill Rogers Papers and includes certificates, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, publications, radio announcement scripts, reports, research notes and data, studies, survey materials, and two videotapes. Pertaining to his work as Lincoln County Extension Agent, these records document Rogers' planning of workshops and tours, assistance in the development of Mike Miller Park, and research into various agricultural and silvicultural topics. Also included in these records is a list of workshops and other presentations made by Rogers covering the years 1980 to 1987. The footage on the two videotapes was shot as a part of film on the cultivation of shiitake mushrooms. Scripted and introduced by Rogers (and filmed in his backyard), the film is narrated by Botany and Plant Pathology Professor Bill Denison.

Library Photographs (P 83)

This accession consists of 92 slides used in a presentation for the Library expansion campaign. In addition to images of Library students and staff in various offices and shelving areas, these slides also show a model of the Library after the proposed expansion, patrons in the library using computers, several graphs and charts with statistical information on library usage, historical views of the Library, and several examples of items in the Library's Special Collections. No script or other paperwork was found with these images. With expansion plans dating back to 1988, the Library Campaign sought to raise private money to match funds that were offered by the state. Successfully meeting the goal, expansion efforts began in 1996 and were completed in 1999. The Kerr Library was renamed the Valley Library in 1995 in honor of the Wayne and Gladys Valley Family, whose foundation donated $10 million to library expansion efforts.

Doris Hageman Whalen Scrapbooks (MSS) NEW Collection

This accession consists of 3 scrapbooks of materials pertaining to Doris Hageman Whalen and her husband Robert. Primarily made up of photographs, these scrapbooks also contain birth certificates, correspondence, graduation diplomas and programs, newspaper clippings, and teaching certificates. Depicting various aspects and stages of Doris' and Robert Whalen's lives, the photographs also portray the Whalens' parents, siblings, classmates, friends, and colleagues. In addition to images of Doris and Robert as children, there are also photographs of them during their military service in World War II, of Doris as a student at OSU, various social functions with friends, Robert in class teaching at Chabot Junior College, images of them on vacation, and of the Whalens at home.
Born in Nebraska, Doris received a BS in Science (1937) and a Masters in Education from Oregon State College (1950). In between her student years, Doris worked in France for the American Red Cross in 1944-1945. Employed as a Professor of Business Education at College of Marin, Kentfield, for 30 years, Doris wrote three handbooks used widely in the fields of business and education. She married Robert Whalen in 1958. In addition to establishing a scholarship for women in business at OSU, Doris also bequeathed a gift to the OSU Library upon her death in 2001. Born in New York in 1919, Robert Whalen taught at University of California at Berkeley, the College of Marin, and Chabot Junior College. He died in 1994.

This accession consists of documentation relating to the construction of the Guin Library and a laboratory at the Hatfield Marine Science Center. Primarily made up of architectural drawings that have been filmed onto individual squares of microfiche, these records have been placed on aperture cards that can be viewed on a microform reader. Totaling 90 cards altogether, an index to the records has been printed out and placed in the folder with the cards. Constructed under a contract through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Guin Library was completed in 1989.

Research projects reflected in these records include long term ecological studies conducted in the H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest and investigations into the issue of pests in timber imported from Russia and the pharmaceutical use of the Pacific Yew tree in the form of Taxol.

This accession consists of materials generated by William McNeil and includes article reprints, correspondence, research data, research studies, and a conference paper. Pertaining to research on salmon habitat, spawning, and migration, the bulk of these records are studies by McNeil commissioned by various organizations including Direct Service Industries Inc., Yakima River Basin Coalition, and the Federal Claims Coalition. Other topics explored in these studies include: the Yakima Fisheries Project, the impact of the Columbia River power system upon fish runs, the influence of hatcheries upon productivity, and the endangered species act. In addition to a post as Professor of Fisheries and Director of the OSU Cooperative Institute for Marine Resources Studies, McNeil has also served as a Professor at the OSU Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station.

Primarily generated by the Marine Science Center Library Committee, these records document the groundbreaking and dedication of the Guin Library in 1990 and include quarterly reports by the Marine Science Center Librarian. Among the subjects addressed in the committee records include: construction plans for the Guin Library and its predecessor-the MSC Library Instruction Building, policies regarding use of library collections, job description for the post of MSC Librarian, and annual statistical information on library usage.

This accession consists of 160 photographic images (72 prints, 81 35mm negatives, 7 slides) taken by Library staff of the Hatfield Marine Science Center Guin Library. In addition to exterior and interior shots of the building (many of which were taken just before the building was finished in 1990), there are also images of Guin Library staff and Marilyn Potts Guin at the groundbreaking ceremony. Images of the library/instructional center at the Hatfield Marine Science Center prior to the construction of the Guin Library are also included in this accession. Marilyn Potts Guin served as the HMSC Librarian from 1976 to 1989. In addition to holding a Master's in Library Science, she also earned a MS in Oceanography from OSU. She died in 1989.

Moore, Harriet (MC)

This accession consists of a newspaper clipping and correspondence relating to OSU Librarian and Archivist Harriet Moore. The clipping details Moore's training and work as a reconstruction aide in World War I and her fight to get veteran benefits. The correspondence, sent to radio broadcaster Don Chichester, is in two different formats: a handwritten letter and a narrative to Chichester recorded on two cassette audiotapes. In the letter, Harriet writes about old friends and her everyday life. On the tapes, Moore details stories from her service in World War I and her life in general.
These materials were transferred to the Archives from Larry Luta of the OSU Publications Office, who, in turn, received them from Don Chichester. Chichester produced a weekly radio for NPR during the 1980s called the "The Spirit of 1978." Moore was a fan of show and corresponded with Chichester. Due to blindness that set in late in her life, Moore recorded her correspondence on audiotape rather than writing letters.

This accession is an addition to the Neal Van Devender Photograph Collection that consists of 100 photographic images (99 prints and 1 negative) taken by alumnus Neal VanDevender of social life in the Heckart Lodge residence hall and elsewhere on the Oregon State campus. In addition to the depiction of students engaged in various hazing rituals and pranks, these photographs also document a Heckart Lodge Christmas party, a farewell party for the lodge housemother, a banquet for a recently engaged student, living quarters inside the lodge, students playing football, and a student "street dance." Various exterior shots of Heckart Lodge as well as other campus buildings are also included among these images. Most of these photographs are dated and identified.

This accession consists of about 450 photographic prints and negatives collected by John H. Gallagher and his son, John H. Gallagher Jr. Primarily aerial views of the Willamette River landscape in Southern Corvallis, the bulk of these images were taken and obtained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Western Ways Inc. Many of the photographs document the facilities and operations of the Corvallis Sand and Gravel Company, a family business established by John Gallagher located in South Corvallis on the banks of the river, and include images of river dredging and street paving taken from both the ground level and the air. There are also aerial views of the general Corvallis region during the 1964 flood in this accession. Panoramic ground views of the Corvallis Sand and Gravel Company plant that were joined together by tape were also found found among these images.

Documenting Rogers' work as a Lincoln County Extension Agent, these records primarily reflect his research activities and participation in groups such as the Oregon Small Woodlands Association, the Lincoln County Livestock Association, and 4-H. Included among the publications in this transfer are copies of the Lincoln County Master Gardener newsletter, which feature a weekly column by Rogers on horticultural and agricultural topics.

This accession consists of materials generated and collected by Extension Agent Bill Rogers and includes certificates, correspondence, course/workshop evaluations, meeting minutes, monthly narrative reports, newsletters, newspaper clippings, employment records, publications, reports, research notes, studies, and survey materials. These materials primarily document Rogers' work with the Extension Service in the organization of workshops and conferences, the research and publication of articles, and his professional involvement with the Extension Agent community. Organizations other than the OSU Extension Service that are represented in these records include the Four-H Center Advisory Committee and the OSU Extension Association. Also included among these records are six zipdisks of files downloaded from Rogers' computer of various documents generated from 1997 to 2003. Four of the disks contain different parts of a Forestry Field Day Manual.
Receiving a MS in Soil Science from OSU in 1980, Bill Rogers began to work for the OSU Extension Service as a County Agent in Lincoln County that same year. In addition to holding adjunct faculty status in three different departments (Crop and Soil Science, Horticulture, and Forest Sciences), Rogers also worked for the Four-H Program as a part of his position with the Extension Service. In 1994, Rogers was promoted to the rank of Professor. He retired in 2003.

Memorial Union Photographs (P 198)

This accession consists of a photo display assembled in tribute to OSU Basketball coach Ralph Miller and is made of 20 color prints with images of Ralph Miller and some of his last games as OSU Basketball coach. In addition to Miller and various team members such as Gary Payton and Scott Haskins, the photographs also document some of the festivities featured at Miller's farewell game that include images of Miller's family and the mascots Benny and Bernice Beaver. Coming to OSU in 1971 to coach the Basketball team, Ralph Miller helped the Beavers earn the distinction of being named the winningest team in the history of the PAC-10 Conference in 1989. When Miller retired from OSU in 1989 he was considered the sixth all-time winningest coach in basketball history. He died in 2001.

This accession consists of two photograph albums of images taken by Library staff. The photographs in one album depict the construction of the west wing addition to Kidder Hall while the other shows the construction of the building where the Library currently resides. In addition to images documenting the construction process, there are also views of the interior and exterior of the buildings before, during, and after the work, including shots of the circulation desk and staff office areas. Images of the ceremonial groundbreaking and transfer of books from Kidder Hall to the new Library building are also included. The album showing the construction of the Kidder Hall addition also contains a numbered key to the images identifying the subject matter as well as date of the photographs. Loose photographs from both of the albums have been placed in a file folder.

This accession consists of two scrapbooks assembled by Library staff. Primarily containing newspaper clippings from the Daily Barometer, the Oregon Stater, the OSU Staff Newsletter, and the Corvallis Gazette Times, these scrapbooks also include brochures, photographs, and a script for a slide show on the development of the OSU Library. Among the topics documented in these scrapbooks include: news about library staff members, the donation of books and historical materials to the Library, Library building construction projects, the University Archives, and Library funding. Loose items from these scrapbooks have been placed in three file folders that are stored with the scrapbooks.

This accession consists of 52 B&W photographic prints taken by George A. Sense as a student at Oregon State College in 1930-1931. In addition to images of his roommates and friends, there are also depictions of the Rook Bonfire, campus buildings, the Mary's River "swimming hole", the university President's house, a group shot of the freshman football team, and the boarding house where Sense lived. The images are identified and dated. Born in Lafayette, Indiana, George Sense came to OSC from California in 1930 to study civil engineering. In addition to playing for the freshman football team, Sense was a member of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity. After a year in Corvallis, Sense returned to California in 1931 to pursue studies at UC Berkeley. Images were donated by George's son, Richard Sense.

This accession consists of materials generated by Robert Rankin as a student at OSC and as an engineering consultant. Included among these records are: accounting ledger entries, a certificate, class handouts, correspondence, drawings/maps, newspaper clippings, notes, student papers, studies and reports, and textbooks. The documentation relating to Rankin's work as an engineer include correspondence, drawings/maps, newspaper clippings, notes, publications, and studies. There are also materials pertaining to rates charged by Pacific Power and Light to Corvallis customers, which Rankin actively contested as being too high. The textbooks were written by Oregon State Physics and Engineering Department faculty.
Graduating from Oregon State with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1950, Robert Rankin worked as a consultant on a number of projects in Washington State and Alaska in addition to a job with the CH2M Hill in Corvallis. Ranking also worked as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at OSU for two terms in the 1956-1957 school year.

This accession consists of records generated and collected by Entomology Professor John D. Lattin and includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, research reports, research notes, a research proposal, and a transcript of testimony from a public hearing. Roughly half of these records consist of correspondence between Lattin and other fellow Entomologists in the U.S., Canada, and elsewhere. The rest of these materials pertain to the study of arthropods in forest ecosystems and the issue of risks posed by pests introduced through imported lumber. Born in 1927, Lattin began his career at OSU in the Entomology Department as an instructor in 1955. Promoted to Professor in 1968, Lattin also chaired the department and served as Director of the Systemic Entomology Lab. In 1992, he became the Director of the Western Forest Insect Biodiversity Center at OSU.

Consisting primarily of research reports and informational materials on international projects with which Arscott worked, this accession also includes correspondence and newspaper clippings. The correspondence relates to Arscott's attendance of an induction ceremony honoring Professor James Dryden on behalf of OSU. George H. Arscott graduated from Oregon State College with a B.S. in Poultry Husbandry in 1949 and returned in 1953 to fill the position of Assistant Professor of Poultry Husbandry. In 1970, Arscott attained the post of Head of the department. In addition to teaching, Arscott was also actively engaged in poultry science research, specializing in the study of the nutritional requirements of poultry and evaluation of feedstuffs. In 1987, Arscott became Professor Emeritus of Poultry Science.

This accession consists of records concerning a proposal from University Archivist Michael Holland for the transfer and disposition of Horner Museum collections. In addition to several draft versions of the proposal, there are also brochures, correspondence, memoranda, notes, and a list of records and photograph collections in the Horner Museum deemed appropriate for transfer directly into the holdings of the Archives. Custody of the Museum's collections were placed into the hands of the University Archives soon after the closure of the Horner in 1995. Following the approval of Holland's disposition proposal in 1996, a number of records and photograph collections were subsequently transferred to the Archives.

This accession consists of excerpts from several letters written by Margaret Fincke while teaching in Israel from 1969 to 1971. In addition to describing the everyday culture and geography of Israel, these letters also contain a list of the Jewish dietary laws and holidays as well as a transcript of a lecture on Jewish dietary laws given at OSU in 1971. The letters were transcribed and distributed by Clara Storvick. Margaret Louise Fincke was appointed associate professor of foods and nutrition at OSU in 1935 and later named head of the department of foods and nutrition. Serving as the dean of the College of Home Economics from 1963 to 1965, Fincke retired in 1969 and then became the first director of the School of Nutrition and Domestic Sciences at Hebrew University in Rehovot, Israel. Clara Storvick is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Nutrition and Food Management.

This accession consists of materials relating to Home Economic study groups coordinated through the OSU Extension Service. Half of this accession contains project leader guides and lesson plans used for study groups in Yamhill and other counties. These guides consist primarily of assembled packets of Extension publications, reports, newspaper clippings, and materials from the Oregon Association for Family and Community Education (FCE). A corresponding list of the study group lesson topics offered from 1970 to 1998 is included among these records. The other records in this accession were generated by Home Economic study group units in Benton County and consist of officer lists, meeting minutes, correspondence, newspaper clippings, completed workshop evaluation forms, and year books. Records from the Benton County Family and Community Education Council and the Benton County Extension Homemakers Advisory Council are also included along with a historical essay on Benton County Extension Home Economics.
These records were collected and transferred to the Archives by the Yamhill County Extension Office.

This accession consists of records generated by the Corvallis-OSU Music Association and consists of bylaws, concert programs, correspondence, flyers, historical essays and information, board meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, performance agreements/contracts, and treasurer's reports. The records primarily pertain to the scheduling of concerts, the booking of musicians and groups, management of the budget, and the publicity of events. The historical information includes a list of all of the Association's concerts from the 1948/49 to the 2002/03 season. Incorporated in 1947, the Corvallis-OSU Music Association played its first season of concerts at the Corvallis High School auditorium before moving into its regular venue at Gill Coliseum, and later, to the Austin Auditorium at the LaSells Stewart Center. Among the artists who have performed for the Association include: Marian Anderson, Isaac Stern, Yma Sumac, Yehudi Menuhin, Ferrante & Teicher, and the Stockholm University Choir.

This accession consists of comments about the Iraqi War on 5x8 cards and handmade posters that were displayed in the Memorial Union concourse from the beginning of the war in April until June 16, 2003. The Memorial Union invited staff and students to offer their comments on the military action and provided the 5x8 cards for that purpose. In addition to the cards and posters, other items, such as a bumpersticker and letters from Senator Gordon Smith and Michael Moore about the war, were also included in the display.

Two of the images are group shots posed in front of the house, while the other four portray the interior and exterior of the house. The images were collected by Harry Kraft, a member of the fraternity. Both of the group shots contain member identification on the back of the photographs. Hailing from National City, California, Harry Kraft attended Oregon Agricultural College from 1916 to 1917. These images were donated by Stephen Strahan, Kraft's grand nephew.

This accession consists of 18 B&W photographic prints of the Oregon State Campus and various street scenes in Corvallis collected and taken by alumnus John Crow. The shots of campus depict buildings as well as shots of trees on campus covered with snow. The images of Corvallis portray different parts of town after a snowfall including two blocks in downtown, a destroyed lumber yard building, and a boarding house. Born in Ione, Oregon, in 1901, Crow entered Oregon Agricultural College in 1917 to study agriculture and farm machinery. He withdrew in 1920. These images were donated by Crow's grandson, Tom Doane, who recently retired after 24 years as a sheet metal mechanic with the OSU Facilities Services Department.

This accession consists of correspondence and legal documents generated and collected by the Crop Science Department relating to lawsuits filed against the Oregon Foundation Seed Program (FSP) by the Washington State Crop Improvement Association (WSCIA). The basis of these suits were over strains of seed wheat (McDermid variety) sold by WSCIA that were in turn supplied by FSP and were found to be defective by farmers in Washington. The Foundation Seed Program at OSU stored and distributed to farmers various strains of seed stocks developed in Oregon and other states. Budgetary considerations led to the demise of FSP in 1999. Currently, the Director of Seed Services at OSU administers some of the functions previously handled by the FSP.

This accession consists of records generated by the agricultural honorary society Gamma Sigma Delta and includes certificates, a charter, a constitution and bylaws, correspondence, fiscal records, meeting minutes, membership lists, annual update reports, and scholarship records. The scholarship records consist largely of award letters, announcements, and memoranda. Established in 1905, the Gamma Sigma Delta Honorary Society currently has 50 chapters nationwide. The OSU chapter was initially established in 1908 and then re-activated after a few years of dormancy in 1981.

Arthur L. Peck Papers (MSS)

This accession is an addition to the Arthur L. Peck Papers and consists of essays in the form of radio scripts and conference papers, correspondence, newspaper clippings, a bulletin about the landscape architecture program at OSC written by Peck, and a photograph. The essays pertain to landscape gardening along Oregon highways, the role of trees in landscape design, and problems in rural and suburban landscaping. The image is an undated group shot of several unidentified men in front of Apperson Hall. Coming to Oregon Agricultural College in 1908, Arthur L. Peck served as a Professor of Landscape Architecture until his retirement in 1948. Peck was also chair of the Fine Arts Department and directed the planning and supervision of the Oregon State campus grounds. Peck is credited for introducing formal education in Landscape Architecture to the Western U. S. He died in 1962.

The newspapers are copies of the Daily Barometer, the Corvallis Gazette-Times, and Counterpoint. Barbara Peck graduated from Oregon State College in 1932 with a degree in Home Economics. While at college, she married Norton Peck, the son of Landscape Architecture Professor Arthur Peck. After graduation, Barbara involved herself in the American Home Economics Association and the Oregon Home Economics Association.

This accession is an addition to the E. Wayne Courtney Papers and consists of reports generated from two projects administered by the College of International Development and Research and funded by grants from the Consortium for International Development (CID) and World Bank. Courtney worked as a consultant on both projects. One of the projects was a skills development project for the Goverment of Thailand (CID) and the other was an evaluation of pedagogical advisory and school networks pilot schemes in Laos (World Bank). Affiliated professionally with OSU since 1972, E. Wayne Courtney has served in the post of Professor in a number of departments, including: the Division of Vocational-Technical Education, Department of Statistics, Department of Educational Foundations, Division of Secondary Education (OSU/WOSC), and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. In 1993, Courtney became Professor Emeritus. Still active in the field, Courtney remains on faculty at Kasetsart University (Thailand) Department of Sports Science, where he teaches research design and statistics.

This accession consists of records generated by Pete Smith as a volunteer assisting in the organization of history tours for the Horner Museum. Among the tours documented in these records include one of Oregon Trail sites and a tour of bridges on the Oregon Coast designed by OSU Engineering Professor C. B. McCullough. Included in these records are brochures, correspondence, maps, newspaper clippings, notes, photographs, postcards, publications, restaurant menus, and travel itineraries. A 1940 graduate of OSU, Pete Smith worked as Assistant Manager and Manager for the University Bookstore shortly after graduation until 1981, when he retired. Smith assisted fellow OSU alumnus Kenneth Munford in the organization of tours for the Horner Museum in background research and the scouting of accomodations and sites for overnight trips. The tours started in 1982 by Horner Museum Director Lucy Skjelstad and Munford.

This accession consists of records generated by the Friends of the Horner Museum and includes brochures, bylaws, correspondence, a director's notebook, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, notes, and tax records. The Friends of Horner Museum was organized as a non-profit corporation in 1996 in reaction to the planned closure of the Horner Museum. The group sought to establish or find a new facility for the Horner Museum collections as well as to locate new resources of funding (other than state government) for the maintenance of the museum. Established by the university in 1925 and housed in various locations on campus, the Horner Museum officially closed to the public in 1995 due to budget cutbacks resulting from the passage of Measure 5 in 1990. Currently, the holdings of the former Horner Museum are in the process of being transferred to the Benton County Historical Society. Pete Smith served on the Board of Directors for the Friends of Horner Museum.

This accession consists of a brochure and notebook of materials assembled by the OSU Chapter of the Omega Delta Phi Fraternity pertaining to the origins and activities of the group. Included among the items in the notebook is the Omega Delta Phi constitution and a packet of information about the fraternity submitted as a part of a competition (the Brennan Cup for outstanding chapter award application). The packet includes reproduced digital images of chapter members at events, lists of chapter activities, and correspondence relating to the fraternity's involvement in the community. The OSU chapter of Omega Delta Phi (Alpha Theta) was founded in 1999 by Leo Ruiz and Victor Perfecto and is the first Latino based fraternity to be established in Oregon.

The images are in various forms, including color slides (80), B&W prints (3), and photographic negatives of aerial views in roll form. Depicted in these photos are lumber operations in Salem, Oregon and Arden, Washington; aerial views of the Blodgett Forest Tract in Columbia County and the McDonald-Dunn Research Forest; and a contour map of Peavy Arboretum. The slides were prepared for a presentation to the annual Fernhopper Banquet in 1985 on the McDonald Research Forest. There is a cassette sound recording that accompanies the presentation, but no transcript.

J. Roger Penn assumed the directorship of the CSSA Graduate Program in 1983, after serving in various positions at OSU since 1972. Penn's previous posts included: Dean of Students, Associate Vice Presidnet for Student Affairs, and Interim Vice President. He became professor emeritus in 2002.

This accession consists primarily of correspondence collected by Oregon State Alumna and Paleontologist Ellen Moore but also includes newspaper clippings, photographs, and publications. The materials document Moore's interaction with fellow Paleontologists in the U.S. as well as those in other countries, and pertain to her research, involvement in the peer review process, and the idenitification of fossilized specimens. Also included among these materials is a book by Moore "Fossil Shells from Western Oregon: A Guide to Identification." Ellen Moore graduated with a BA in Geology from Oregon State College in 1946 and worked as a Geologist for the U.S. Geological Survey from 1950 to 1987. Active in the professional Paleontological community, Moore specialized in the study of marine pelecypods (snails and clams) of the tertiary period in the fossil record. She has held a Courtesy Research Associate appointment in the OSU Department of Geosciences since 1987.

A presentation designed for training student shelvers was also included in this accession. Transcripts found in this accession for some of the presentations have been placed with the slides. In addition to lists of Crop Science faculty, graduate students, and department heads, this publication also describes the evolution of research into selected crops at OSU such as hops, meadowfoam, flax, and peppermint. Arnold Appleby is a Professor Emeritus in the Crop Science Department. He came to OSU in 1959.

This accession consists of materials collected by William Bryant as a student at OSU (then Oregon Agricultural College). Included in this accession are two OAC "new friends" notebooks with autographs from fellow students, a quarterly bulletin annotated by Bryant for his brother, a pocket calendar "handbook" with notations, a flyer with lyrics to football game yells and songs, pamphlets on cadet regulations from the Oregon National Guard, a photocopy of a sign requesting information on an act of vandalism to one of the campus buildings, and a letter from Professor John Horner to George Pope referring to Bryant. Hailing from Woodburn, Oregon, William Cullen Bryant studied mechanical engineering at OAC from 1902 to 1905. He did not graduate.

Receiving his B.S. in Animal Husbandry from OSU in 1939, Minnick began to work in the post as Benton County Extension Agent in 1944. In addition to his active participation in 4-H, Minnick also started the County Roadside Litter Cleanup program. Retiring in 1974 from the Extension Service at the level of Associate Professor, Minnick died in July 2002.
